不同于传统混凝沉淀技术，磁混凝技术是在混合反应池中加入磁粉，利用磁场强化降解水中的污染物，磁混凝工艺对TP、SS等指标具有良好的处理效果，对COD、藻类、浊度等也有去除作用，0NTU， 较短的混凝与沉淀时间，絮体静置沉降速度20-60m/h； 由于系统内部有稀土磁粉，因此耐受流量及固体负荷冲击；水力条件要求简单，与常规混凝沉淀相同；磁粉损耗很低，磁粉回收率为99%以上； 占地面积小；操作简单，运行稳定。

当前段工序出现故障时，或其他有害金属离子进入污水处理系统，污水可直接进入磁混凝系统，系统仍然能够保持较高的去除效果，大幅度去除水中污染物；设备和工艺可以随时调整，灵活性强、占地小，可设置为流动式处理车间(如：流动设备处理车、活动板房等)，可根据需求装置*地点，或建固定厂房等；投资低，比膜处理有明显的优势，而且磁粉可回收并在系统中循环使用，回收率99％；运行成本低，设备使用寿命长，除了正常的维护外，不用更换部件而造成高昂的二次投资。
