The oxygen index is 47, and Pei meets the FAA flame retardant and heat release material standards for aircraft internals. It has a glass transition temperature of 419f and allows intermittent use at 392f, resulting in short-term excursion at higher temperatures.
The long-term creep resistance of Pei (polyetherimide) under high temperature and stress allows it to replace metals and other materials in many structural devices. It has good electrical properties under variable temperature, humidity and frequency. The low loss factor at GHz makes polyetherimide have high microwave wearability. Its ionic pollutants are of low level, and its conductivity is more than 20 megohm at 250 f R.H. and 207 kPa for 120 hours. It can be used as an insulating material for electronic sensor components.
